The Studio

The Story of Pranava

Pranava Yoga Center opened its doors in January of 2009. The co-founders, Mike and Charlotte Matsumura, envisioned a yoga center in Colorado Springs that was unique... a studio that offered all aspects of the practices of yoga rather than only the asana (physical) element. They were both deeply influenced by their years of practicing yoga in New York City, where the yoga studios incorporated all eight limbs of a traditional yoga practice. This led them to create their own vision for Pranava Yoga Center, which was to offer the various aspects of yoga to the community in a sacred space where each practitioner could find growth in all elements of their practice:  physical, mental, and spiritual.

In August of 2014, Mike and Charlotte moved to Austin and the Pranava torch was passed to Hethyr and Jon Pletsch. Hethyr had practiced at Pranava since 2011 and had been immediately drawn to the warm and welcoming environment. She soon began teaching classes and workshops regularly at the studio. Her deep-rooted connection to Pranava, her strong yogic values, her vibrant energy, and her dedication to the Pranava community made her the perfect choice to take the reigns and lead the studio into a bright future. Along with the support of her husband, Jon, a first grade teacher at Manitou Elementary School, they maintain the commitment to the core principles of honoring all eight limbs of yoga and equally recognizing the physical, mental, and spiritual elements of the practice. These important values, combined with a fun-loving, joyful, welcoming environment, make Pranava a unique and enlightening venue in which to practice yoga in the Springs.

Since opening its doors, Pranava Yoga Center has become well-recognized and well-respected in the community and has won several awards in different “best of” competitions. Within a short amount of time, PYC has been recognized all across the state as many of Pranava’s instructors have presented workshops around Colorado. Pranava Yoga Center is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour and 300-hour levels. Pranava offers teacher trainings for 200-hour certification and 300-hour certification. Pranava Yoga Center is proud and honored to have well-respected guest instructors from across the country for all of their training programs.

Proudly, we remain true to our vision. PYC is a sacred space where all aspects of yoga can be practiced by seasoned practitioners and beginners alike. We are honored to support and serve the yoga community.
